Messaging

CakeMarket provides built-in messaging between sellers and buyers, available both during the offer stage and throughout order fulfilment.

Where to Find Messages​

Messages are accessible from two places:

  1. Request Detail Modal — After submitting an offer, a "Messages" button appears with an unread count badge
  2. Order Detail — Switch to the "Messages" tab

Message Thread​

Layout​

  • Your messages (seller): Right-aligned with a pink background and white text
  • Buyer messages: Left-aligned with a white background and grey border
  • Each message shows its content and a relative timestamp (e.g., "5 min ago")

Sending Messages​

  1. Type your message in the input field at the bottom
  2. Send by clicking "Send" or pressing Enter
  3. Use Shift+Enter for a new line within your message
  4. The send button is disabled while sending or if the input is empty

Auto-Refresh​

  • The message thread polls every 10 seconds for new messages
  • Unread message counts are tracked and displayed as badges
  • The thread auto-scrolls to the latest message

Notifications​

The top bar includes a notifications bell that shows:

  • Unread count badge (red)
  • Dropdown with up to 20 recent notifications
  • "Mark all read" link
  • Each notification shows title, body, and read state (pink highlight if unread)
  • Notification counts refresh every 30 seconds

Message-related notifications include new messages from buyers, offer responses, and order status updates.
